Kitchen at Birkelunden

The owner of this home, located in a classical building near Birkelunden in Oslo, has created a warm and modern feeling in her kitchen using our A Collection bamboo fronts. Choosing the color Stone enhance the color- and material palette throughout the home, designed with the aim of creating a calm retreat in the middle of the city. When renovating the old apartment the family of three wanted the kitchen to be the heart of the home, a place to gather around preparing- and enjoying meals, and to be spacious enough to host friends and family. Together with the owner, we created a solution where she was able to reuse some of the Ikea kitchen cabinets from the previous kitchen in the apartment, with our bamboo fronts. This way she could create an entirely new kitchen, and also upgrade on materials such as new wooden floors and a countertop in Silestone.

The kitchen is designed with a long counter, stretching along the entire room without wall cabinets, underlining the original details and the ceiling hight of the room. Our A2 Box Shelf is used for displaying unique ceramics and objects, creating a personal feeling in the modern kitchen. Natural materials adds tactility and warmth to the minimal design, creating an inviting and elegant atmosphere.

Pia Tjelta Studio

In collaboration with Pia Tjelta, the actress and the entrepreneur behind Pia Tjelta studio, we have designed and custom made bamboo furniture for her new studio. All of the pieces are made in the finish Stone, a cold, slightly white tinted bamboo. This finish fits delicately with the neutral wall color and sets a light and airy base for all of their designs.

“Pia’s designs focus on choice of materials and attention to details…for a timeless flattering look that can be worn by generation after generation.” A sentiment that we can vouch for in Ask og Eng and which is why we are proud to be a part of Pia Tjelta and her team’s interior process in their brand new studio.

House in Stockholm

One of Ask og Eng interior projects is set in the small Swedish town, Ekerö, near Stockholm. The home is designed with a calm and muted material and color palette, with tactility and light fabrics which complement the minimalistic and contemporary architecture. What makes this project unique is the utilization of bamboo throughout the house.

Ask og Eng has delivered everything from the bathroom furniture, tables, shelves, doors and even the ceiling panel. Everything is meticulously customized for the house and for the people who live in it.

Ask og Eng often start their interior projects with the kitchen, the heart of the home, and then they assess each room and curate the home holistically. Ask og Eng has chosen the materials of the floors, walls and ceiling to create a harmonious home and calm atmosphere, and accompany the different finishes of bamboo of the bespoke furniture.

When the founders of Movesgood were going to build their home it was no coincidence that the material, bamboo, would be the star of the house. Movesgood is a company that designs ethical and sustainable clothing, made from natural lyocell bamboo.

There was instantly a mutual interest and shared values between the founders when Movesgood and Ask og Eng first met, as Ask og Eng also is a family owned business which is based on the material bamboo.

Finca at Ibiza

In the magnificent scenery of Ibiza there’s an over century old finca which has been renovated into a tranquil home away from home. When designing the interior for the house it was important to preserve the rough charm and materiality of the building. Infusing this Mediterranean retreat with nordic minimalism may seem contradicting, but the quality and warmth of bamboo elevates the calming experience of the room. In every corner of this finca you will find customized bamboo furniture from bed frames, vanity units, wardrobes and of course the heart of every home; the kitchen.

The kitchen is designed as a communal area where everyone can gather around the kitchen island centered in the room. The carefully selected natural materials with tactile qualities, in line with the traditional finca combined with the light and open space leaves a feeling of serenity and mindfulness.

Cabin at Rauland

For this cabin located in the Norwegian mountains, we aimed to create a warm and contemporary retreat. Together with the owner who is an interior designer, we created a recurring theme throughout the cabin by enhancing quality materials. There are sophisticated solutions at every corner of the cabin, like the traditional architecture with exposed logs and its rough appearance that contrasts with the smooth and delicate surfaces.

The bathroom plays with warm and cold elements with the tiled floors, microcement walls and our custom made bamboo vanity unit in the finish, Rye. The wash basin and the floor tiles are made with the natural stone Lundhs Antique, a type of anorthosite which ties in with the dark stained walls in the other rooms. Cabins are a huge part of Norwegian culture and it is common practice to bring nature inside by using natural materials. And although bamboo is not naturally occuring in the Norwegian environment we wanted it to feel like an integrated part of this beautiful scenery.

House in Copenhagen

This A Collection kitchen in the Copenhagen house consists of two different finishes. The Stone finish on the kitchen cabinets along the wall and in the niche, and Soil finish for the kitchen island. Combining two finishes in a lighter, colder tone and a warmer, brown tone is an effective way of creating zones and breaking up the room.

Using the niches of a room, which is often left unused, for example with a built-in bistro station is great for utilizing the space and creating visual focal points.

House in Delft

A while back we were contacted by Holly from the renowned Avenue Design Studio, to work together on her new project and kitchen. For her house in Delft we wanted to do something extra special and therefore entered in collaboration with Avenue Design Studio to design a brand new pull.

We first met Holly a couple of years ago through a photoshoot she did in our home in Drammen. We experienced a mutual chemistry and sense of style, so when Holly reached out to us with her project and ideas, we jumped on board straight away.

“It was there in their Drammen workspace that I fell in love. Hard. The grain, the finishes, the organic properties and minimalistic sensibilities of the material were speaking to me in a big way. When it came to designing a kitchen for my own home shortly after that trip, I wasted no time in reaching out to Kine and Kristoffer of Ask og Eng”.

– Holly Marder –

For this long and slender kitchen located in her home in Delft in the Netherlands, we built the base of the kitchen using IKEA cabinets and the Bean fronts from our A collection. The kitchen has no top cabinets, but it still has plenty of storage space in the existing cabinets, which gives the family of four more than enough space for cooking. Additionally there was installed a side bar solution for the good conversations and the children´s homework.

In addition to this we also wanted to do something extra special. And therefore together with Avenue Design Studio we designed and developed an entirely new pull for our A collection.

For the new pull we drew inspiration from the several custom made kitchens we have made over the last few years. We wanted to create a pull that highlighted the length of a kitchen, with an understated elegance in the overall look and feel. We used a simple element like the block as a basis for the new design, which turned out to be a good way to showcase the layered edge of the bamboo in a subtle way. The pull also has an inset ledge underneath for your fingers to grip onto for easy and comfortable opening. The pull will soon be made available to those also looking to achieve the same look on their A collection fronts.

Townhouse in Rotterdam

The owners of this beautiful home just outside Rotterdam have created a characteristic and inviting space using our A Collection bamboo fronts. They wanted to keep the charm and genuinity of the old townhouse and have chosen our Grain finish combined with a natural stone countertop. Above the kitchen counter the A7 cross shelf serves as a display of all their unique belongings sourced on local markets and travels. Their home is an example of how tuning into the origins of a house and leaning into its style can make a place both personal and unique.

Apartment at Grünerløkka

The client for the interior renovation of this classical apartment, typical for its neighborhood, with generous ceiling height and many small rooms, wanted to transform the space from an old, rustic interior into a contemporary, more minimal living space. We made the general palette clean and crisp, with materials such as dark bamboo, light wooden floors and white surfaces which provide a cozy, yet minimal and airy feel to the space.

House at Konnerud

For this house, Ask og Eng have custom built a dark kitchen, all in bamboo, which goes well with the pine walls and other natural materials spread out over the house. Here also the counter top is made of bamboo and contributes to give the kitchen a minimalistic and classic feel. The house is situated on a beautiful hillside overlooking the city of Drammen and the big windows gives the kitchen area great views and light.

The interior is inspired by mid century modern feels and filled with small Japanese treasures, as the couple who lives there, have a big preference for Japan.

Cabin at Hvaler

For this scandic minimal cabin, located on the island of Hvaler, we made a light and simplistic kitchen that goes really well with the other materials related to nature and all the natural elments that you find just outside of the cabin. The mix of natural materials, big windows and light tones empahsize blurred lines between the inside and outside.

Apartment at St. Hanshaugen

For this home at St. Hanshaugen we did both the kitchen and the bathroom furniture. The kitchen was designed using our grain bamboo and E series. The bathrooms are also from our E collection, but for a more delicate and soft finish we went with snow. Each piece was made bespoke to fit the dimensions of the room and underline the height of of the ceiling. All in all, we went for minimal, but timeless pieces that will only get more authentic with use.‍

“The expression of Ask og Eng has something very Japanese about it. So when I found it on Instagram, everything fell into place”.

Villa in Viken

The Founders previous home, the Villa in Viken, was subject to explorations of new design. This E Collection kitchen is the first to be made in the finish, Rye. We wanted to create a colour that was a perfect hue between Bean and Grain. The bamboo structure is the same as you can find in our Grain finish, while the colour appears both darker and plainer in its overall expression, still emphasizing the material and its structure.

The biggest transformation we made was to remove the island we previously had, giving us a seven meter long kitchen counter. This alteration in our kitchen plan opened up the entire room, making it appear larger and more spacious. We wanted the kitchen to resemble a piece of furniture that also could be viewed from our living room, and therefore we decided on stretching the kitchen along the entire wall.

House in Ålesund

For this home in Ålesund, located on the west coast of Norway and with fantastic views, we designed and made several of the main house furniture, such as the kitchen, the wardrobe, laundry and bathroom. The kitchen, desk and wardrobe were designed using our grain bamboo and is custom made from our E collection. The bathroom furniture is also from our E collection, but for a more delicate and Scandinavian feel we went with Wheat.

Townhouse in Palma

Together with interior designer Audhild Samseth from Nordic Sense, we spent part of our time during lockdown, designing and making the kitchen for her new townhouse located in Palma, Spain. The kitchen and kitchen island were designed using our color Soil and is custom made from our E Collection. Above the kitchen we included our A9 box shelf for more storage and for a place to put all of those personalized items.

Villa in Oslo

In a wooden villa just outside of Oslo, Susanne Holzweiler, an inspiring business owner and cofounder of the multifaceted company Holzweiler, has chosen a bamboo kitchen from our E Collection, for her newly renovated family home. The house is situated in a rural neighborhood where they get to enjoy a spacious garden and lots of natural light. Our journey and collaboration with Susanne began when she visited our previous workshop and showroom, an inspiring meeting which led to us making her a kitchen with Rye finish and drop handles. The interior design is balanced and harmonious with a focus on a few, quality materials and has an interesting appeal by using patterned floors and contrasting nuances.

The kitchen also functions as a family room with several areas designated for social gatherings or work, or perhaps a combination of both. They can choose to sit around either of the two dining tables, in the finish Wheat, or gather around the kitchen island. The kitchen island is a great furniture piece that ties the kitchen and living room together, making the room more versatile. The kitchen is also custom designed to make the best use of the room and has practical solutions like the kitchen bench which ends in a sitting bench. This elongates the kitchen, creates more storage space and allows for more seats without visually cramming the room with chairs. The result is a minimalistic and open space, letting the natural light in and creating a pleasing atmosphere.

Introducing AE7 vanity unit

The bamboo cabinetry has a simple, yet functional form. The warmth of natural bamboo creates a liveliness, while its simplicity and clean lines makes it a great addition to the bathroom environment. Each and every design element has been planned with careful consideration, from the hard wax oil-treated bamboo to the skillfully crafted internal drawer detailing.

As with everything else we do, the idea for the vanity units was inspired by a project we were working on, where we wanted to apply Norwegian stone in our design. Lundhs Antique stone, an Anorthosite, was crafted 1000 million years ago by nature on the west coast of Norway when igneous rock formed from the cooling of magma. We always strive to use as much natural materials as possible and therefore we have used the same stone on the bathroom floor, but in a different finish.

“We were contacted by Kine and Kristoffer when they were refurbishing their new home and showroom for Ask og Eng. As specialists in bamboo kitchen and bathroom furniture, their passion for using sustainable and natural materials aligns perfectly with our philosophy, and our Norwegian natural stone is the perfect complementary surface. We had no doubt that we wanted to work with them on this project — the result of the collaboration is both unique and beautiful. Bamboo is as far as I know a fantastic sustainable alternative material for furniture, and together with our stone, it is guaranteed to stand the test of time.”

Hege Lundh, Marketing & Business development director, Lundhs
