As a continuation of our home renovation upstairs, we made a custom made kitchen in our new colour Rye that we are very excited to finally reveal. We wanted to create a colour that was a perfect hue between Bean and Grain. The bamboo structure is the same as you can find in our Grain finish, while the colour appear both darker and plainer in its overall expression, still emphasizing the material and its structure.
For our new kitchen, the biggest transformation we made was to remove the island we previously had, giving us a seven meter long kitchen counter. This alteration in our kitchen plan opened up the entire room, making it appear larger and more spacious. We wanted the kitchen to resemble a piece of furniture that also could be viewed from our living room, and therefore we decided on stretching the kitchen along the entire wall. The kitchen is entirely made of bamboo from the inside and out, with custom made bamboo inlays for cutlery and other everyday necessities, giving us the storage and functionality we need.
For the counter top we wanted to apply a natural material that would go well together with the bamboo. We chose a limestone called Jura, which has a natural cold feel to it. Having two kids, it is important for us to choose materials that are durable and resistant to everyday use, and natural stone was therefore a good choice. We also finally installed a Quooker tap in a patinated brass finish, that goes well with both the bamboo and the limestone. The kitchen room is very light, but we have a lot of dark periods here in the North. We therefore chose not to install any wall hung cabinets, but only supplied with our A7 Cross Shelf, giving us the extra space for plates and cups for every day use.
